President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed into law the Appropriation Amendment Bill, extending the implementation period of the 2025 budget through December 31, 2026.
ABUJA, Nigeria — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially signed into law the Appropriation (Amendment) (No.4) Bill, 2025, extending the execution timeline for the 2025 national budget from September 30, 2026, to December 31, 2026.
The presidential assent follows the swift legislative approval of the amendment by both the Senate and the House of Representatives on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the statutory extension provides Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) with necessary operational runway to complete ongoing capital projects.
The extension is designed to prevent funding disruptions to critical infrastructure programs and ensure that allocated funds are fully utilized before the end of the fiscal year.
“The extension gives Ministries, Departments and Agencies more time to complete ongoing capital projects,” Onanuga stated. “It ensures that funds already appropriated are fully put to work for Nigerians, without disrupting critical programmes.”
President Tinubu commended the National Assembly leadership and lawmakers for their expeditious handling and passage of the bill. He described the prompt legislative action as a reflection of sustained synergy between the executive and legislative arms of government aimed at achieving national developmental targets.
The approval aligns the 2025 budget cycle to run continuously through the final quarter of 2026, giving federal contractors and implementing agencies extra time to meet procurement and execution milestones.
