NOA Borno State urges Nigerians to renew their commitment to patriotism, promote national unity and uphold values for national development.

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Borno State has urged Nigerians to renew their commitment to patriotism, promote national unity and uphold the country’s core values as the nation marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.

The agency’s Borno State Director, Mr Michael Bdliya, made the call in a message issued on Thursday in Maiduguri to commemorate the anniversary.

Bdliya said Nigeria’s diversity should be seen as a strength rather than a source of division, urging citizens to place the national interest above personal and sectional interests.

He described Independence Day as more than a commemoration of Nigeria’s freedom from colonial rule, saying it also serves as a reminder of citizens’ collective responsibility to build a nation founded on unity, integrity and patriotism.

According to him, Borno State’s experience of prolonged challenges demonstrates the resilience and determination of Nigerians to overcome adversity.

“Borno State, having endured many challenges, stands as a symbol of resilience and the Nigerian spirit of never giving up,” he said.

Bdliya urged Nigerians to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence while respecting people regardless of their tribe, religion or political affiliation.

He also called on citizens to uphold discipline, integrity, dignity of labour, social justice, religious tolerance, self-reliance and patriotism.

The NOA director highlighted the roles of young people, traditional and religious leaders, the media and civil society organisations in strengthening national unity and social cohesion.

He reiterated the agency’s commitment to civic education and public sensitisation across Borno State as part of efforts to promote responsible citizenship and national values.

The call comes as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary under the theme “From Reforms to Stability: Consolidating Nigeria’s Renewed Hope for Shared Prosperity.” The Federal Government had earlier said the anniversary would provide an opportunity for citizens to reflect on the country’s journey, resilience and shared responsibility for national development.
