The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) hosted the newly elected NSE Enugu Branch Executive Committee to foster technical partnerships, staff capacity building, and digital transformation.

ENUGU — The management of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) hosted the newly elected Executive Committee of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Enugu Branch, for a high-level strategic meeting at its corporate headquarters at Power House, Enugu.

The delegation, led by NSE Enugu Branch Chairman Engr. Osondu Loveday, met with EEDC Managing Director and CEO, Engr. Vincent Ekwekwu, alongside senior executive officers to establish a operational roadmap focused on digital transformation, professional certification, and infrastructure optimization.

Welcoming the leadership team, Engr. Ekwekwu commended the newly inaugurated executive committee while highlighting the crucial role engineering bodies play in upholding professional standards and eliminating uncertified practice within the power sector.

Ekwekwu emphasized the urgent necessity of adopting modern technology to streamline utility operations, boost revenue performance, and secure long-term operational efficiency across the regional grid.

“Many of our activities are still manually executed, and we want to rely on your wealth of experience to automate these processes. We want to see those experiences translate into tangible outcomes that reflect the success of our collaboration,” Ekwekwu stated.

He further called for tailored NSE training programs for EEDC’s technical workforce and encouraged uncertified internal engineers to secure official professional accreditation. Ekwekwu also briefed the visiting delegation on recent structural evolutions within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), detailing how regulatory reforms have spurred the creation of state-focused distribution subsidiaries across the South-East geopolitical zone.

Echoing the commitment to capacity building, EEDC Group Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Pauli Isiguzo, assured the society of EEDC’s full support in identifying eligible engineers within the firm for registration. He urged the NSE leadership to design bespoke curriculum modules grounded in regional operational realities.

“There are specific challenges within our operating environment that require home-grown initiatives,” Isiguzo remarked. “It is through local engineers like you that these customized solutions can be developed.”

In his address, NSE Enugu Branch Chairman Engr. Osondu Loveday noted that the courtesy visit formed part of his administration’s mission to strengthen institutional links with crucial industrial actors across the state. He acknowledged EEDC’s foundational role in sustaining economic growth across the South-East.

“Electricity remains fundamental to industrialization, commerce, healthcare, education, and modern life. As engineers, we recognize the vital importance of a functional, reliable, and sustainable power distribution system,” Loveday affirmed, pledging the branch’s readiness to collaborate on technical knowledge sharing, safety protocols, and public enlightenment.
