The Nigerian Army has arrested two soldiers over alleged ammunition racketeering and recovered an AK-47 during separate operations in Zamfara and Kaduna.

The development was contained in an operational report made available to journalists on Thursday, September 24, 2026. The report said troops of Operation Fansan Yamma arrested the two soldiers after they allegedly attempted to transfer 60 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition to a suspected civilian buyer.
According to the report, one of the soldiers allegedly handed the ammunition to the other in the presence of the suspected buyer.
The two suspects, who were attached to the headquarters of Operation Fansan Yamma and 223 Battalion, were arrested at about 7:50 p.m. on Wednesday.
Troops also recovered four mobile phones, two empty magazines, an ATM card, a motorcycle, a cutlass, keys, recharge cards and other items from the suspects.
The Army said the suspects and recovered exhibits were subsequently handed over to the 1 Brigade Provost Company for further investigation.
In a separate operation, troops of the 1 Division operating along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway engaged suspected terrorists after detecting their movement with a long-range camera.
The troops confronted the suspects in bushes around the Abuja-Kaduna railway line, forcing them to withdraw.
During a follow-up operation, soldiers recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 13 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and other items.
The recovered items also included a military jungle hat, magazine carrier, civilian clothing and a prayer mat.
In Akwa Ibom State, troops of Operation Delta Safe raided a suspected illegal bunkering dump at Otom Community Waterside in Ibeno Local Government Area.
The operation led to the recovery of 40 drums containing about 12,000 litres of suspected illegally refined automotive gas oil, with an estimated value of N14 million.
Troops also recovered a drum of engine oil and two tanks, which the Army said were handled in accordance with extant regulations.
In Plateau State, troops responded to an attack on commuters at Dindiyes village in Mangu Local Government Area.
The Army said the troops engaged the suspected attackers and forced them to withdraw from the area.
Following the operation, troops recovered the corpse of a civilian around the scene of the incident, while efforts continued to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The latest operations highlight the range of security challenges confronting troops across different parts of the country, including illegal arms and ammunition movement, terrorism, illegal oil refining and attacks on civilians.
The Army said the arrests, recoveries and ongoing investigations formed part of its continued operations to disrupt criminal networks and improve security across the affected areas.
