Anambra Police have recorded a major security breakthrough, rescuing a kidnap victim, arresting seven suspects linked to separate kidnapping and armed robbery syndicates, and recovering a stolen tricycle.
The Anambra State Police Command has rescued a kidnap victim, arrested seven suspects linked to separate kidnapping and armed robbery syndicates and recovered a stolen tricycle in intelligence-led operations across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
According to the statement, operatives of the Anambra IGP’s Violent Crime Response Unit recorded the breakthroughs in two separate operations based on credible and open-source intelligence.
In the first operation, operatives acting on credible intelligence arrested two suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate, Victor Onwuka, alias “Bugatti,” and 30-year-old Madukaife Chidiebere Kenechukwu.
The suspects were arrested in the early hours of August 16, 2026, at Akpukpokelemu Village, Nimo, in Njikoka Local Government Area.
Police alleged that the suspects were involved in the kidnapping of a victim who was held captive for three days in a criminal hideout.
During the victim’s captivity, the suspected kidnappers allegedly withdrew N7 million from his bank accounts before fleeing with his Toyota Highlander SUV.
The Police said the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement during interrogation and were subsequently identified by the victim.
They are also assisting investigators with information that could lead to the identification and arrest of other members of the syndicate who remain at large.
In a separate operation conducted on September 15, the same unit, acting on open-source intelligence, arrested five suspects allegedly linked to an armed robbery syndicate involved in the theft of a TVS tricycle.
Police said the tricycle was allegedly snatched by armed men in Asaba, Delta State, in April 2026.
Following the arrest of the first suspect, 38-year-old Nwakpa Friday, operatives recovered the stolen tricycle, with registration number ASB595VD, at Old Road, Nkpor, Anambra State.
Further investigation led to the arrest of four other suspects identified as Sylvester Nteshi, 53; Nwuzor Livinus, 35; Mgbom Uche, 27; and Chiweuba Chukwudi, 42.
The Police said the five suspects and the recovered tricycle remained in custody as investigation continued to establish the individual roles allegedly played by the suspects and apprehend other members of the syndicate still at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the operatives for their professionalism, intelligence-led approach and prompt response.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to sustained intelligence-led operations, strategic deployment of technology and coordinated efforts against kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism and other violent crimes across the state.
The latest operations highlight the command’s ongoing use of intelligence gathering and targeted interventions to track suspected criminal networks and recover stolen property in Anambra and beyond.
