The Ogun State Police Command has neutralised two suspected kidnappers, rescued an abducted truck driver and recovered two AK-47 rifles, ammunition and ₦2 million during an intelligence-led counter-tactical operation.
The operation was carried out by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit following the abduction of the professional truck driver on August 25, 2026, at about 11:10 p.m. in the Ajibawo area of Ibese, Ogun State.
The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, said the Anti-Kidnapping Unit immediately commenced operations after receiving the report, gathering actionable intelligence that led operatives to the suspected kidnappers’ hideout along the Papalanto-Ilaro Road.
Police operatives stormed the location during the operation, leading to the neutralisation of two suspects, while other members of the gang reportedly escaped with gunshot injuries.
A search of the hideout led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of 5.6mm live ammunition, two mobile phones and ₦2 million in cash, which the police said was reasonably suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.
The bodies of the two deceased suspects were deposited at a morgue for autopsy, while the Ogun State Police Command intensified efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing members of the gang.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for what he described as its gallantry, professionalism, courage and operational effectiveness.
Ojajuni said the successful operation reinforced the Command’s determination to relentlessly pursue kidnappers and other violent criminals across the state.
“Ogun State will remain a hostile terrain for criminal elements,” the Commissioner said.
He assured residents that the Command would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, tactical operations and strategic partnerships with communities to protect lives and property.
The Police Commissioner also urged residents to remain security-conscious and provide timely and credible information to security agencies, particularly concerning individuals seeking medical treatment for suspected gunshot wounds, as efforts continue to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The operation represents another breakthrough in the Ogun State Police Command’s ongoing campaign against kidnapping and violent crime, as security agencies intensify intelligence-driven operations against criminal networks in the state.
