Edo State Deputy Governor, Mr Dennis Idahosa, has rewarded a student, Delight Amayaenvbo, with N1 million for recording straight As in the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The Deputy Governor presented the cash reward to Amayaenvbo at the Government House in Benin, Edo State, according to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Friday Aghedo, on Wednesday.
Idahosa described the student’s outstanding WASSCE performance as a product of hard work, discipline and determination, while commending him for bringing recognition to Edo State through his academic achievement.
He said the gesture was intended to encourage Amayaenvbo and inspire other students across the state to take their education seriously and pursue academic excellence.
The Deputy Governor stressed the importance of recognising exceptional academic performances among young people, noting that such recognition could motivate more students to strive for excellence.
According to Idahosa, the reward also reflects the commitment of the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo to education, youth development and the promotion of excellence among Edo youths.
He urged students across the state to remain focused on their studies, describing academic excellence as a potential pathway to greater opportunities and an important contribution to the development of Edo State.
The Deputy Governor’s recognition comes at a time when results from the 2026 WASSCE are drawing attention to outstanding performances by Nigerian students.
Amayaenvbo’s father, Charity Amayaenvbo, expressed appreciation to Idahosa for the financial reward, describing it as a significant source of encouragement to his son and the entire family.
He said the gesture would further motivate the student to pursue higher academic goals while serving as encouragement to other young people.
The recognition highlights the potential impact of celebrating academic achievement as Edo State continues to focus on education and youth development.
