APM has swept the Bauchi local government election, winning all 20 chairmanship positions and 319 of the 323 councillor seats declared by BASIEC.
The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has recorded a sweeping victory in the Bauchi State local government elections, winning all 20 chairmanship positions and 319 of the 323 councillorship seats contested in Monday’s poll.
The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) announced the results following the completion of voting, counting and collation across the state’s 20 local government areas.
BASIEC Chairperson, Hajiya Jummai Abubakar, declared the successful candidates duly elected, saying they secured the highest number of valid votes and satisfied the requirements of the law.
According to the commission, APM candidates won all 20 local government chairmanship positions and 319 councillor seats.
The remaining four councillorship positions were won by four different political parties.
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) secured Dandango Ward in Bauchi Local Government Area, while the National Rescue Movement (NRM) won Darazo South Ward in Darazo Local Government Area.
The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) won Wandi Ward in Dass Local Government Area, while the Young Progressive Party (YPP) secured Zirami Ward in Giade Local Government Area.
Abubakar said the results were declared after the commission concluded the electoral process, including voting, counting and collation of results.
She said the successful candidates had met the legal requirements and obtained the highest valid votes in their respective constituencies.
The election, however, was not without controversy, as some opposition parties boycotted the exercise.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC), African Action Congress (AAC), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) were among the parties that stayed away from the election.
The parties reportedly alleged that the conduct of the election contravened provisions of the 2026 Bauchi State Electoral Act.
The boycott meant that the APM faced limited competition in several constituencies, while the four opposition parties that participated in some areas secured the remaining councillorship seats.
With the declaration of the results, APM is set to control all 20 local government councils in Bauchi State at the chairmanship level, giving the party a dominant position in the state’s grassroots administration.
