Adeleke’s re-election in Osun has been praised by President Tinubu as a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in Nigeria.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, describing the victory as a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in Nigeria.
Adeleke, the candidate of the Accord Party, was declared winner of the August 15 governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), securing 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
In a statement, President Tinubu said he had earlier called Adeleke to congratulate him on his victory, noting that the outcome reaffirmed the confidence Osun voters had placed in the governor.
“I called Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him,” Tinubu said.
The President wished Adeleke success as he prepares to begin another four-year term and urged him to use the victory as an opportunity to unite the people of Osun State.
“Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made at the election,” he said.
Tinubu also commended the other candidates who contested the election, praising what he described as their courage and discipline throughout the electoral process.
He said their participation contributed to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic culture and expressed confidence that the outcome reflected the choice of the electorate.
“The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land,” the President said.
The President further commended INEC and the security agencies for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.
Adeleke’s victory gives him another four-year mandate to govern Osun State after securing a majority of the votes cast across the state’s 30 local government areas.
The President’s congratulatory message comes as political leaders and stakeholders continue to call for unity and acceptance of the election outcome following the conclusion of the closely contested poll.
