Hisbah warns Kano residents against drug abuse and commercial sex as Operation Kano First intensifies surveillance across major areas of the state.
The Kano State Hisbah Board has issued a strong warning against drug abuse, commercial sex and other activities it considers capable of undermining public morality and security in the state.
The Deputy Commander-General of the board, Mujahedeen Aminudeen, gave the warning while speaking with journalists in Kano on Friday.
Aminudeen particularly cautioned youths involved in street-based commercial sex activities, locally referred to as “good evening”, warning that anyone found engaging in such activities would face legal action.
The official said the board had intensified surveillance and enforcement activities under its recently introduced Operation Kano First, targeting illicit drug use, drug supply and other activities considered immoral.
He said the operation was being conducted across several areas of Kano, including State Road, Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Katsina Road and Kofar Mazugal.
According to him, the exercise demonstrates the board’s determination to confront activities that could threaten public morality, public safety and security.
The Hisbah official urged residents, particularly young people, to desist from activities that could expose them to criminal prosecution or other social consequences.
Aminudeen commended the Kano State Government for providing additional operational equipment to strengthen the board’s activities.
He disclosed that the government had provided an operational vehicle and 50 motorcycles to enhance surveillance and response operations.
According to him, the additional mobility would enable Hisbah personnel to cover more locations across the state and respond more quickly to incidents requiring intervention.
The latest warning comes as Kano authorities continue efforts to tackle drug abuse and other social problems involving young people. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has separately identified Kano among states requiring sustained action against illicit drug trafficking and abuse, particularly because of the state’s role as a major commercial and transportation hub.
Aminudeen said the Hisbah Board would continue its surveillance and enforcement activities under Operation Kano First to discourage drug-related activities, commercial sex and other conduct considered harmful to society.
