Building engineer Abdul Mohammed has been arraigned in Abuja over alleged misappropriation of N2.5 million belonging to a company.
A building engineer, Abdul Mohammed, has been arraigned before a Dutse Magistrates’ Court in Abuja over the alleged misappropriation of N2.5 million belonging to a company.
Mohammed, 40, was charged by the police with criminal breach of trust, cheating and misappropriation of funds. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecuting Counsel, Babajide Olanipekun, told the court that Alkhaleej Rentals Nigeria Ltd., Dawaki, Abuja, reported the matter at the Dawaki Police Divisional Headquarters.
According to the prosecutor, Cool Deal Synergy Ltd., a subsidiary of Alkhaleej Rentals Nigeria Ltd., transferred N2.5 million to Mohammed on February 2, 2025, to purchase and install a machinery part.
Olanipekun alleged that Mohammed had promised to purchase and install the machinery part on or before February 27, 2025, but allegedly absconded after receiving the money.
The prosecutor said efforts to reach the defendant were unsuccessful until his eventual arrest on May 15, 2025.
He further told the court that during police investigation and interrogation, Mohammed acknowledged receiving the N2.5 million but allegedly admitted converting the money to his personal use.
The prosecution said the alleged offences contravened Sections 312, 322 and 309 of the Penal Code Law.
Mohammed, however, denied the allegations by pleading not guilty to the charges.
The Senior Magistrate, Evelyn Dara, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000, with one surety in like sum.
The court ordered that the surety must provide a reliable means of identification and reside within its jurisdiction.
Magistrate Dara adjourned the case until September 29, 2026, for hearing. The defendant remains presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
