Nigeria’s equities market recorded a ₦235 billion gain on Friday as sustained investor demand extended the bullish trend to a third consecutive trading session.
The positive performance reflected renewed confidence in the market, with increased demand for blue-chip stocks supporting the upward movement despite a negative market breadth.
Market capitalisation rose by 0.15 per cent to close at ₦158.513 trillion, compared with ₦158.278 trillion recorded at the previous trading session.
Similarly, the All-Share Index (ASI) gained 364.26 points, representing a 0.15 per cent increase, to close at 245,573.60, up from 245,209.34 recorded on Thursday.
The latest gain pushed the market’s year-to-date return to 57.81 per cent.
Despite the overall positive performance, market breadth closed negatively, with 24 stocks declining against 22 gainers.
Red Star Express led the losers’ chart, declining by 10 per cent to close at ₦18 per share.
CAP followed with a 9.98 per cent decline to ₦115.45, while John Holt fell by 9.82 per cent to ₦10.10.
ABC Transport shed 9.57 per cent to close at ₦5.20, while Legend Internet declined by 8.70 per cent to ₦4.20 per share.
On the gainers’ side, UPDC emerged as the best-performing stock, advancing by 9.23 per cent to close at ₦3.55 per share.
Computer Warehouse Group followed with a 6.56 per cent gain to ₦19.50, while AXA Mansard Insurance rose by 4.80 per cent to ₦13.10.
Neimeth International Pharmaceutical gained 4.24 per cent to finish at ₦8.60, while Cutix appreciated by 4 per cent to close at ₦2.60 per share.
Trading activity strengthened significantly during the session, with total volume rising by 185.55 per cent to 1.52 billion shares.
The shares were traded in 42,580 deals, with a total value of ₦26.65 billion.
Fortis Global Insurance dominated trading by volume, accounting for 824.46 million shares, representing 54.29 per cent of the total volume traded.
By value, Access Corporation led the market with transactions worth ₦4.67 billion, representing 17.52 per cent of the total value traded during the session.
