Excellence in leadership and service was celebrated as Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) Managing Director, Engr. Vincent Ekwekwu, received the Kwame Nkrumah Grow Africa Prize for Excellence from the Grow Africa Youth Initiative.
ENUGU, Nigeria — The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), Engr. Vincent Ekwekwu, has been honoured with the Kwame Nkrumah Grow Africa Prize for Excellence in recognition of his leadership and contributions to national development.
The award was presented on Monday during a courtesy visit by a delegation of the Grow Africa Youth Initiative to EEDC’s Corporate Headquarters, Power House, Enugu.
The organisation also honoured the management and staff of EEDC with a commendation for their dedication to the company’s mandate and the significant achievements recorded in electricity distribution over the years.
The delegation was led by the President of the Grow Africa Youth Initiative, Comrade Ozim Temple, alongside the General Secretary, Hon. Akufo Donald, and the Deputy Media Coordinator, Comrade Yusuf Hamisu. They were received by EEDC’s management, led by Engr. Ekwekwu.
Speaking during the visit, Ozim said the award was established to recognise individuals of African descent whose lives reflect selfless service, exemplary leadership and meaningful contributions to humanity, Pan-Africanism, moral values and human capital development.
He noted that the organisation envisions an Africa where patriotism, respect for human rights and shared values drive sustainable development across the continent.
According to him, the Grow Africa Youth Initiative is an Africa-focused youth organisation committed to promoting leadership, entrepreneurship and Pan-Africanism while empowering young Africans to make meaningful contributions on the global stage.
He disclosed that the organisation is currently implementing two flagship programmes—Drug Abuse Sensitisation and Agriculture for All—while also recognising individuals and institutions that serve as positive role models for African youths.
“We identify and honour outstanding institutions, leaders and role models across Africa who have distinguished themselves through impactful service and exceptional achievements,” Ozim said.
“It is on that basis that we are here to honour the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of EEDC, as well as the company’s management and staff.”
Presenting the award, Ozim described Engr. Ekwekwu as an outstanding engineer, youth advocate and visionary leader whose commitment to service aligns with the ideals and philosophy of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Receiving the honour, Engr. Ekwekwu expressed gratitude to the Grow Africa Youth Initiative for recognising both him and the organisation.
He commended the initiative for its efforts in advancing Africa’s development through programmes that promote youth empowerment and leadership.
The EEDC chief stressed the importance of mentoring young people and creating opportunities that keep them positively engaged, urging the organisation to develop practical initiatives that can be replicated across Africa to promote personal growth, productivity and societal development.
