Electric shock left a BEDC Electricity Plc technical staff member injured during routine maintenance on an 11kV feeder in Ado-Ekiti, prompting the company to launch an investigation while providing medical support to the employee.
ADO-EKITI, Nigeria — BEDC Electricity Plc has confirmed that one of its technical staff members sustained injuries after suffering an electric shock while carrying out maintenance work on an 11kV feeder in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The company’s Head of Branding and Corporate Communications, Mrs. Evelyn Gbiwen, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Benin.
According to the statement, the incident occurred at about 6:20 p.m. on Saturday in the Ado-Poly Satellite Campus area of Ado-Ekiti.
The injured employee was identified as Mr. Akinyemi Bamidele, a technical linesman.
Gbiwen said Bamidele sustained burns to his arm and other parts of his body after receiving an electric shock while performing an operational task on the 11kV Basiri Feeder following scheduled maintenance work.
She said the injured staff member was immediately rushed to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, where he is receiving medical treatment.
According to the company, Bamidele is in a stable condition and responding positively to treatment.
“BEDC Electricity Plc remains committed to the safety and well-being of its employees and is providing the necessary support to the injured staff member during this period,” the statement said.
The company also announced that it has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Gbiwen added that appropriate measures would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
