The Enugu State Government donates 400 modern desktop computers to the Enugu State University of Science and Technology to boost research and technological education.
The management of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has expressed deep gratitude to Governor Peter Mbah following the state government’s delivery of 400 modern desktop computers.
The major infrastructure deployment aims to accelerate experiential learning, expand technical research capacity, and strengthen technology-driven instruction across the institution’s campuses.
Receiving the hardware on behalf of the university, Vice-Chancellor Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie characterized the intervention as a decisive effort to establish ESUT as a regional hub for technological innovation and academic excellence.
He announced that 200 of the newly delivered units will be deployed directly to the ESUT College of Medicine, while the remaining 200 units will equip the university’s 500-capacity ICT Centre located at the main campus in Ebeano City, Enugu.
According to Professor Okolie, the upgraded ICT Centre will be fully operational ahead of the 2026/2027 academic session. Beyond standard coursework, the facility is designated to host major computer-based national examinations, including assessments administered by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the National Examinations Council (NECO), and the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB).
The Vice-Chancellor added that the university has initiated comprehensive curriculum overhauls under the direction of Professor Chike Anibeze, Director of Academic Planning, to incorporate practical modules in emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Data Science.
Speaking on the impact at the medical campus, the Provost of the ESUT College of Medicine, Professor Uchenna Ekwochi, described the donation as a major breakthrough for medical research.
He explained that the computers will be integrated into the college’s e-library system, utilizing existing high-speed internet infrastructure to give medical students seamless access to global digital research portals and administrative support systems.
Significantly, the hardware units delivered to the university were manufactured locally at the Haier Computer Assembly Factory in Enugu. Established under Governor Mbah’s industrialization policy, the local manufacturing plant produces desktop systems and digital hardware designed to meet the operational demands of educational institutions, public sector agencies, and private businesses while driving economic growth and technology employment within Enugu State.
