President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally approved the appointment of Dr. Wasiu Olanrewaju-Smart as the Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters for the House of Representatives.
The decision was announced in an official State House press release signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. Dr. Olanrewaju-Smart succeeds Honorable Ibrahim Olanrewaju, who voluntarily stepped down from the role to pursue elective public office in his home state.
The newly designated presidential aide brings a distinguished academic background and extensive governance expertise to the executive team.
The forty-year-old scholar holds a Doctorate Degree in Educational Management from Lead City University and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Harvard University, where he was named an Edward Mason Fellow in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School.
His credentials include a LEAPS Fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a professional diploma from the London School of Public Relations, and a Policy Fellowship at Quantum Alliance AI in the United States, where his research concentrated on artificial intelligence and civic technology.
Dr. Olanrewaju-Smart boasts a rich history within the federal legislature, having served in various critical capacities across multiple parliamentary cycles.
His career in the National Assembly began as a Research and Media Assistant to the Minority and Majority Leader during the Seventh and Eighth Assemblies.
He subsequently rose through key administrative ranks to serve as Special Adviser, Deputy Chief of Staff, and eventually Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the House of Representatives during the Ninth and Tenth Assemblies.
Prior to his latest presidential appointment, Dr. Olanrewaju-Smart served within the executive branch as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Intergovernmental Affairs, a position he assumed in October 2023.
His public policy contributions include significant research support for landmark national legislation, most notably the Interest-Free Student Loan Act.
President Tinubu expressed full confidence that Dr. Olanrewaju-Smart will leverage his deep intellect, administrative track record, and institutional experience to enhance intergovernmental harmony and strengthen legislative coordination between the executive arm, federal ministries, departments, agencies, and the House of Representatives.
