United States President Donald Trump has officially commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his decisive leadership against terrorism, reaffirming Washington’s commitment to deploying elite Special Operations Forces and expanding military intelligence sharing with Nigeria.

In a significant endorsement of Nigeria’s ongoing national security reforms, United States President Donald Trump has officially praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his decisive leadership in the global fight against terrorism.

The commendation was made public in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, who revealed that Trump conveyed the message in a direct letter addressed to President Tinubu.

Expressing deep appreciation for Nigeria’s firm stance against armed extremism, the American leader applauded Tinubu’s resolve to tackle the complex security challenges confronting the country, particularly emphasizing efforts to neutralize violent attacks targeted at vulnerable civilian populations and Christian communities across affected regions.

Highlighting the critical strategic nature of the bilateral partnership, President Trump emphasized that the U.S.–Nigeria relationship remains vital during a period of expanding armed conflict and regional instability across West Africa.

Trump noted that the 2026 U.S.–Nigeria Defence Cooperation Roadmap has established a formidable framework designed to deepen defense ties, enhance joint tactical capabilities, and accelerate mutual security objectives.

As a concrete demonstration of Washington’s support, the U.S. government has deployed elite Special Operations Forces to assist the Armed Forces of Nigeria through specialized military instruction, advanced field intelligence, and operational capacity building aimed at safeguarding national sovereignty and restoring lasting peace.

The high-level correspondence underscores the tangible security milestones achieved under the Joint Working Group co-chaired by the National Security Advisers of both sovereign nations.

Established to streamline bilateral defense cooperation, the joint initiative has significantly enhanced real-time intelligence sharing, tactical planning, and direct combat coordination between American and Nigerian military units.

A major breakthrough resulting from this alliance occurred during a joint offensive in the Lake Chad Basin, which successfully targeted ISIS hideouts and eliminated top terrorist leader Abubakar Al-Minoki alongside several key commanders.

Following a recent diplomatic visit to Abuja by U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Africa Frank Garcia, both administrations reiterated their shared commitment to sustaining joint military pressures against insurgent networks across the sub-region.
