Peter Obi has called for stronger Nigeria-Switzerland partnership to advance education, healthcare and poverty reduction following a meeting with Swiss Ambassador Patrick Egloff.
Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has reaffirmed the importance of stronger international partnerships in driving Nigeria’s development, stressing that sustained collaboration in education, healthcare and poverty reduction remains vital to building a more prosperous nation.
The former Anambra State governor made the remarks after meeting with the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Patrick Egloff, in what he described as a productive and engaging discussion focused on Nigeria’s developmental journey and opportunities for deeper bilateral cooperation.
According to Peter Obi, the meeting centred on key sectors that directly impact the quality of life of Nigerians, including education, healthcare and strategies aimed at lifting more citizens out of poverty.
“Yesterday, I met with the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Patrick Egloff, and we had a productive and engaging discussion on our country’s developmental journey, with particular emphasis on the critical sectors that drive development: education, healthcare, and lifting people out of poverty,” Peter Obi said.
The former presidential candidate also expressed appreciation to the Swiss Confederation for its longstanding contributions to Nigeria’s development, particularly in promoting economic growth, humanitarian interventions, cultural exchanges and peace-building efforts.
He noted that Switzerland’s support has been especially impactful in Nigeria’s North-East, where humanitarian and peace-building initiatives have continued to provide relief and hope to affected communities.
Mr Peter Obi emphasized that partnerships built on shared values and a commitment to human development remain indispensable for addressing the country’s socio-economic challenges.
“I expressed my gratitude for the invaluable contributions of the Swiss Confederation to Nigeria’s development, especially its support for critical economic, cultural, humanitarian, and peace-building initiatives, particularly in the North-East,” he stated.
The former governor further maintained that strengthening relationships with development partners would help create more opportunities for inclusive growth while improving access to quality education and healthcare for millions of Nigerians.
He reiterated his belief that collaboration between Nigeria and friendly nations should continue to focus on improving human capital development and reducing poverty across the country.
Peter Obi concluded by expressing optimism about Nigeria’s future, insisting that with purposeful leadership and stronger partnerships, the country can achieve sustainable development.
