Labour Party presidential candidate Dr. Chibuzor Okereke outlines a bold governance blueprint for 2027, promising aggressive institutional reforms, data-driven policymaking, and radical devolution of powers to local governments.
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for the 2027 general elections, Dr. Chibuzo Okereke, has pledged to run an inclusive, reform-driven administration anchored on innovation, data integrity, and aggressive structural devolution if elected.
Speaking on Sunday in Abuja, the governance expert and flag bearer rallied citizens to renew their faith in the country under the party’s newly unveiled campaign mantra, “Nigerians First, Believe Again.”
Asserting that the Labour Party has completely resolved its historical internal administrative crises, Okereke positioned the political platform as a unified vehicle ready to dismantle retrogressive political structures and prioritize human capital development across the federation.
A key indicator of this inclusive vision, according to Okereke, is his deliberate selection of Hajia Bintu Konto as his female vice-presidential running mate, a strategic move aimed at addressing gender under-representation and bridging geopolitical divides.
The presidential hopeful stated that his administration would actively collapse ethnic and tribal considerations to establish a merit-based system that optimizes the capacity of all citizens.
He emphasized that his role would extend beyond the traditional duties of a Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, as he intends to function as a “Commander-in-Chief of reforms and innovation” dedicated to correcting deep-seated social inequalities, supporting security personnel on the frontline, and rewriting the economic realities of abandoned pensioners and struggling youth.

Instead, the candidate proposed an integrated governance framework that systematically redistributes federal responsibilities to subnational authorities.
Addressing the nation’s developmental bottlenecks, Okereke identified “unverified assumptions” as one of Nigeria’s greatest systemic challenges. He cited popular statistics, such as the widely quoted figure of 18 million out-of-school children, as lacking sufficient empirical validation.
To remedy this, he revealed that his team is already spearheading multi-faceted field studies to ensure that future interventions in health, agriculture, and education are driven by verifiable realities rather than abstract concepts.
Responding to questions regarding political alignments ahead of the 2027 polls, the Labour Party standard-bearer firmly dismissed any possibilities of the party dissolving into a merger or coalition controlled by other political groups.
While ruling out an absorption, Okereke extended an open invitation to other opposition forces-specifically mentioning past allies within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)-urging them to consolidate their structures behind his candidacy to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Maintaining that his extensive background as a governance advocate and policy analyst equips him with the freshest ideas in the current political field, Okereke stated that it remains in the absolute best interest of the broader opposition to support the Labour Party’s reformative vanguard.
