Tinubu’s economic reforms have earned strong praise from Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who compared the President to Singapore’s founding leader, Lee Kuan Yew, during a media tour in Owerri.
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as “another Lee Kuan Yew,” praising his economic reforms and expressing confidence that the President’s performance would secure him a second term in the 2027 general elections.
Uzodimma made the remarks on Friday during a state dinner at the Government House in Owerri to mark the conclusion of the three-day Renewed Hope Ambassadors/Presidential Communications Team National Media inspection of landmark federal and state government projects in Imo State.
The governor said President Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, fully prepared to confront Nigeria’s economic challenges through far-reaching reforms.
According to him, the country has entered a new phase of development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The old order is gone and there is now a new order. President Tinubu knew exactly what he came to do. He started implementing the reforms immediately because he understood the task before him,” Uzodimma said.
Drawing a biblical analogy, the governor compared Nigeria’s economic situation before the reforms to the bondage of the Israelites in Egypt, arguing that difficult but necessary decisions were required to free the country from years of economic stagnation.
He acknowledged that the reforms initially imposed hardship on citizens but maintained that they were already yielding positive results, particularly through increased revenues available to states for infrastructure and human capital development.
Uzodimma said the transformation currently taking place across Imo State was a direct result of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Everything we are doing in Imo today is made possible because of the Renewed Hope Agenda. We are pursuing sustainable development, investing in infrastructure, healthcare, education and technology because the reforms have created the enabling environment for development,” he said.
The governor expressed confidence that Nigerians would reward President Tinubu with another term in office in 2027 as the benefits of the administration’s policies become more evident.
Speaking on behalf of the visiting journalists, veteran journalist Dr. Soni Daniel commended the Uzodimma administration for what he described as remarkable developmental achievements across Imo State.
He said the inspection tour offered firsthand evidence of the government’s commitment to infrastructure renewal, particularly in road construction, healthcare, education, digital technology and human capital development.
According to Daniel, the projects reflected prudent management of public resources and had positioned Imo among Nigeria’s leading states in infrastructure and economic transformation.
Earlier, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, also commended the governor for what he described as a remarkable transformation in infrastructure following the three-day inspection of federal and state government projects.
The National Media Tour, organised by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in collaboration with the Presidential Communications Team, featured more than 40 senior editors and journalists.
Dare said the projects inspected demonstrated the practical implementation of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through collaboration between the Federal Government and the Imo State Government.
He added that increased allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), resulting from the Federal Government’s economic reforms, were being translated into impactful projects, including the Imo Digital City, the 2,000-bed Infectious Disease Centre, the Heart Transplant Centre in Orlu, the University of Innovation, Science and Technology at Omuma, the expansion of the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Convention Centre and the Orlu–Akokwa–Uga Border Road.
