A high-powered joint media delegation inspects massive transit, aviation, healthcare, and educational infrastructure projects in Imo State, showcasing how strategic state-federal alignment translates into rapid subnational development.
In a major push to showcase the physical dividends of subnational and federal synergy, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and members of the Presidential Communications team on Wednesday conducted a comprehensive inspection of several game-changing infrastructure assets in Imo State.
The intensive tour, part of an ongoing National Media Tour across the South-East geo-political zone, serves as a collaborative initiative between the Governor Hope Uzodimma-led Renewed Hope Ambassadors and the presidency to bring transparency, accountability, and firsthand public awareness to massive capital projects reshaping the region.
The inspecting delegation, which brought together senior presidential media aides and more than 40 veteran editors and journalists, traversed key economic arteries including the fully completed 56-kilometre Okigwe–Owerri dual carriage road, the 36-kilometre Owerri–Obowo–Umuahia road, and the ongoing, high-stakes runway upgrade at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport.
The touring team also evaluated monumental upgrades in the social infrastructure sector, specifically visiting the historic Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education—recently elevated from a state-owned college—and the Federal Medical Centre Owerri, which has been upgraded to the Federal University of Technology Teaching Hospital.
Speaking during the site inspections, the Imo State Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation, and Strategy, Mr. Declan Emelumba, hailed these developments as clear dividends of a robust working relationship between Abuja and Owerri.
He explained that the ongoing expansion of the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport is strategically engineered to transform the facility into a major logistics and export hub, complete with eight state-of-the-art storage warehouses designed to stimulate agricultural exports, commerce, and foreign direct investment across the South-East.
Addressing the media at the newly minted Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Commissioner Emelumba emphasized that securing this federal upgrade had been an elusive, decades-long pursuit for successive Imo State governments.
He credited the breakthrough to the focused, persistent diplomacy of Governor Hope Uzodimma, pointing out that the upgrade has already triggered an influx of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) interventions and created massive employment opportunities for local residents.
Emelumba further revealed that the fiscal space enabling Imo State to aggressively fund and co-share these capital projects was directly widened by the bold economic reforms implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which have boosted statutory allocations to subnational governments.
Reinforcing this message of collaborative governance, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Special Duties, Mr. Tunde Rahman, praised Governor Uzodimma’s administrative alignment with the center, describing it as a masterclass in how states can leverage federal partnerships to fast-track regional development.
Rahman lauded the governor’s active embrace of the federal Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly referencing state-level support for pioneering educational programs like the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) that prevent indigent youth from dropping out of school.
Members of the visiting press corp commended the exceptional structural quality and speedy execution of the inspected works, noting that the visible transformation in Imo State stands as undeniable proof that federal-state cooperation is actively delivering real value to ordinary citizens.
