Three dogs reportedly attacked and injured a telecommunications technician during an MTN installation job in Benin City, prompting police to arrest the owner and launch an investigation.
A telecommunications technician, Ajani Taiwo, has been hospitalised after three dogs reportedly attacked him while carrying out an MTN network equipment installation in the Okhoro area of Benin City, Edo State.
The incident occurred on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at a facility located behind the Okhoro Police Division along Okhoro Road, where Taiwo had gone to carry out the installation work.
Sources said the technician, who resides on Adesagbon Street off Okhoro Road in Egor Local Government Area, contacted the person responsible for the site’s power supply at about 3 p.m. to gain access to the facility.
However, shortly after the entrance was opened, three dogs reportedly charged at Taiwo and attacked him.
The attack continued until the owner of the dogs, identified by police as Ughanlunen Sandra, arrived at the scene and intervened.
Taiwo’s cries for help reportedly attracted neighbours, who joined efforts to rescue him from the animals before he was taken to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment.
The technician sustained injuries during the attack, including a wound to his head, according to the Edo State Police Command.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said the owner of the dogs was arrested following a formal complaint lodged by the victim.
“Upon arrival, he contacted the person in charge of power to open the door, and as the door was opened, about three dogs attacked him before the owner, Ughanlunen Sandra, arrived at the scene,” Ikoedem said.
The police spokesperson confirmed that an investigation had commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
The Edo State Police Command also cautioned dog owners and breeders to exercise adequate control and supervision over their animals to prevent attacks and protect members of the public.
The incident has renewed attention on the responsibility of pet owners to properly restrain potentially dangerous animals, particularly in locations where workers, visitors and other members of the public may require access.
