A Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Offences Court in Anambra has remanded a 46-year-old man over the alleged defilement of a 14-year-old girl, with the case adjourned until August 5 for hearing.
An Anambra Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Offences Court sitting in Awka has ordered the remand of a 46-year-old man, Chima Onyeanuna, over the alleged defilement of a 14-year-old girl.
The defendant, who is a member of a vigilance group, is facing a one-count charge of alleged defilement.
During proceedings on Thursday, the prosecutor, Inspector Chinyere Okechukwu, told the court that the alleged offence occurred between 2025 and May 31, 2026, at Umuezejiofor, Amakwo Village, Nanka, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to the prosecution, the teenager would often seek refuge in the defendant’s residence whenever she had disagreements with her parents, during which period he allegedly defiled her.
Okechukwu told the court that the matter came to light after the girl’s father discovered the alleged incident and reported it to the authorities.
She further informed the court that a medical examination conducted at the Ntasi Sexual Assault Referral Centre, General Hospital, Enugu-Ukwu, confirmed that the teenager had been defiled.
The prosecutor said the alleged offence contravenes Section 34(2) of the Anambra State Child Rights Law, 2004.
She urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility pursuant to Section 130(2)(a)(b) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2022.
Ruling on the application, Chief Magistrate U.E. Onochie ordered that Onyeanuna be remanded at the Awka Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
The court subsequently adjourned the matter until August 5, 2026, for hearing.
