The Benue State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the killing of MACBAN Chairman Alhaji Risku Mohammed and another victim, pledging to arrest and prosecute those responsible.

MAKURDI – The Benue State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into the killing of the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in the state, Alhaji Risku Mohammed, and another victim, Yakubu Isa.

The State Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Makurdi through the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Udeme Edet.

According to the police, the victims were attacked by unidentified assailants while returning from a security meeting along the Okwudu–Ogoli Road in Otukpo Local Government Area.

Condemning the incident, Nwadiogbu described the killings as senseless criminal acts capable of undermining ongoing efforts to sustain peace and security in Benue State.

The Commissioner of Police expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and all those affected by the tragedy.

He disclosed that tactical and intelligence assets had already been deployed to identify, apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the attack.

“The command has commenced a full-scale investigation into the incident, while tactical and intelligence assets have been deployed to identify, apprehend and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The command will not leave any stone unturned to ensure that the culprits are arrested and prosecuted,” the police commissioner stated.

Nwadiogbu appealed to residents to remain calm, law-abiding and refrain from taking the law into their own hands or circulating unverified information capable of escalating tensions.

He also urged anyone with credible information that could assist the investigation to report promptly to the nearest police station or through the command’s designated emergency lines.

The police commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Benue State and pledged continued collaboration with relevant stakeholders to ensure that those behind the killings are brought to justice.

The investigation is ongoing as security operatives intensify efforts to track down the unidentified attackers responsible for the fatal assault.
