President Bola Tinubu has approved a final six-month tenure extension for Comptroller-General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi, allowing him to continue implementing the National Single Window project and oversee a structured leadership transition within the Nigeria Customs Service.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a final six-month tenure extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Adewale Adeniyi. The extension, which will run until February 2027, comes ahead of the expiration of Adeniyi’s current tenure on August 1, 2026.

According to the Presidency, the extension is intended to allow the Customs chief to consolidate the implementation of the National Single Window project and ensure a smooth leadership transition within the service.

During the extension period, Adeniyi is expected to work closely with the Nigeria Customs Service Board to oversee the promotion of qualified officers to the rank of Comptroller of Customs and facilitate the retirement of officers who have reached the mandatory retirement age of 60 years or completed 35 years of service.

Adeniyi was appointed Comptroller-General of Customs by President Tinubu in June 2023 after a distinguished career spanning more than three decades in the service.

A graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, he joined the Nigeria Customs Service in the late 1980s and steadily rose through the ranks. He became Deputy Comptroller in 2012, Comptroller in 2017, Assistant Comptroller-General in 2020, and Acting Deputy Comptroller-General in January 2023 before his appointment as Comptroller-General.

The extension is expected to provide continuity in ongoing customs reforms and support the completion of key institutional and digital transformation initiatives within the service.
