A 79-year-old voter in Ondo State has urged President Bola Tinubu to intensify efforts against insecurity and hunger, warning that many Nigerians are struggling with fear, poverty, and economic hardship amid worsening living conditions.
A 79-year-old voter, Mr. Adetarami Igbekele, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to urgently address the growing challenges of insecurity and hunger confronting Nigerians.
Igbekele made the appeal on Saturday shortly after casting his vote at Polling Unit 5, Ikoya/Igbinsi-Oloto Ward, in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State during the Ondo South Senatorial District by-election.
Speaking with journalists, the septuagenarian expressed concern over the worsening security situation across the country, noting that many citizens now live in fear and are reluctant to travel due to persistent attacks by bandits and other criminal elements.
According to him, the rising level of hunger and poverty has further compounded the hardships faced by ordinary Nigerians, with many families struggling to cope with the effects of current economic realities.
“We know that President Tinubu is trying to fight insecurity, but I appeal to him to do more for the safety of lives and property in the country,” Igbekele said.
“Hunger and poverty are ravaging the land. President Tinubu should roll out targeted programmes to combat poverty and food insecurity in the country.”
The elderly voter also disclosed that he participated in the by-election to support Prof. Dayo Faduyile, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressing confidence in the party’s chances at the polls.
Igbekele commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for ensuring a smooth voting process and for showing consideration to elderly voters at the polling unit.
The Ondo South Senatorial District by-election is being conducted to fill the vacant seat following the appointment of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
The exercise witnessed voter turnout across parts of the senatorial district as electoral officials supervised the voting process in accordance with established guidelines.
