The Ika South Local Government Council begins direct online disbursement of N50,000 bursaries to 430 successful higher institution beneficiaries to ease student financial burdens.

The Ika South Local Government Council of Delta State has officially initiated the electronic transfer of ₦50,000 in student bursaries to 430 successful indigenes currently enrolled in higher institutions nationwide.

The intervention scheme, run through the central Ika South Students Bursary Board, is designed to provide immediate relief against mounting economic strains on families while keeping local scholars focused on academic performance.

Speaking at the launch briefing on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, the Executive Chairman of the Council, Hon. Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, explained that the intervention underscores his administration’s active policy framework on human capital development, youth inclusion, and community integration.

He noted that the 430 successful beneficiaries were selected transparently through the council’s digitized education portal after verifying that they met all strict administrative, academic, and origin criteria established during the open application window earlier in the year.

“Education remains a critical tool for development and nation-building; my administration will continue to invest in programmes that empower young people and provide them with opportunities to achieve their full potential. We officially commenced online disbursement of Ika South student bursaries today. The 430 students that applied met the criteria, hence the online disbursement. This initiative is aimed at easing the financial burden on students and encouraging academic excellence across our communities.” – Hon. Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, Executive Chairman, Ika South LGA

The financial relief package targets full-time students across universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. A breakdown of the initiative’s operational structure, financial allocations, and eligibility tracking reveals a highly institutionalized approach to grassroots academic funding:

Key Requirements Reviewed: Beneficiaries were processed using strict benchmarks, which included a verified National Identification Number (NIN), a confirmed Local Government Area (LGA) Origin Certificate, and a minimum academic benchmark of a 2.50 CGPA from their respective faculties.

Congratulating the recipients, Chairman Ehiwarior urged them to deploy the funds purposefully to acquire reference materials, settle pending campus obligations, and drive innovative projects. He stated that the local government council is convinced that investing heavily in youth education remains the absolute foundation for developing future administrative, technical, and political leaders capable of contributing meaningfully to the socioeconomic expansion of Delta State and the nation at large.
