The Nigerian Air Force has intensified its counter-terrorism campaign, neutralising scores of terrorists and destroying a major enclave in the Lake Chad Basin following a precision air strike based on credible intelligence.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has recorded a major operational success in the fight against insurgency, neutralising scores of terrorists during a precision air strike on identified targets in the Lake Chad Basin.

The operation, carried out in the early hours of Wednesday, targeted terrorist hideouts at Metele in the Northern Tumbuns area following credible intelligence reports and extensive surveillance missions.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday, June 11, 2026, by the Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.

According to Ejodame, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions confirmed the presence of a senior terrorist commander, active terrorist camps and increased movement of hostile elements within the targeted location.

Based on the intelligence gathered, NAF air assets were deployed to engage the identified positions with precision strikes.

“Upon arrival, aircrew observed significant terrorist movement around concealed structures, confirming the presence of hostile elements,” Ejodame stated.

He explained that after positive target identification was established, the aircraft carried out coordinated strikes on the designated targets.

The operation resulted in the destruction of terrorist infrastructure and the elimination of numerous fighters within the enclave.

According to the statement, a post-strike Battle Damage Assessment confirmed that the targeted terrorist camp was successfully destroyed and scores of terrorists were neutralised during the operation.

Reacting to the outcome, the Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Aneke, commended the personnel involved and reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to sustaining military pressure against terrorist groups operating across the country.

Aneke said the NAF would continue to deploy its air power capabilities to identify, track and eliminate terrorist threats wherever they are located.

“We will continue to leverage our air power capabilities to locate, strike and destroy terrorist targets wherever they are found,” he said.

The Air Chief added that the Nigerian Air Force remains determined to deny terrorists freedom of movement and operational space while ensuring that no part of the country serves as a safe haven for violent extremist groups.
