President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of retired Lieutenant General Chikadibia Isaac Obiakor, describing him as a distinguished soldier, diplomat, and global peace advocate whose service brought honour to Nigeria and the African continent.
In a condolence message issued on Saturday, the President paid tribute to Obiakor’s decades of commitment to peacebuilding, national service, and international diplomacy.
Tinubu described the late military officer as a patriot whose life was defined by professionalism, courage, and selfless leadership.
According to the President, Obiakor’s contributions to peacekeeping and conflict resolution left a lasting impact on Nigeria’s reputation and strengthened the standing of the country’s armed forces globally.
He noted that the retired general made history as the first African to serve as the United Nations Military Adviser for Peacekeeping Operations, a milestone that reflected his competence and earned him international recognition.
Tinubu said Obiakor’s leadership in peacekeeping operations and post-conflict reconstruction efforts across different parts of the world demonstrated his dedication to global stability and humanitarian service.
The President stated that the late general carried the image of Nigeria and Africa with dignity on the international stage and remained a symbol of national excellence.
