President Bola Tinubu makes history by appointing 39-year-old Professor Segun Aina as the youngest-ever Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose successful two-term tenure is set to officially expire on July 31, 2026.

The incoming chief executive, who will turn 40 in July, is a highly distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive, verifiable experience in national examination architectures, digital infrastructure deployment, and public-sector institutional reform.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, alongside an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing, both obtained from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom, complemented by executive training from the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.

The brilliant Professor of Computer Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, actually began his professional journey with JAMB during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year, gaining the critical foundational experience in national admissions and data-driven institutional processes that have continually shaped his ongoing contributions to examination reform and systems optimization.

Operating at the dynamic intersection of technology, policy, and institutional transformation, Aina has spent over 15 years advising federal and state governments on complex system design, digital transition, and operational reform. Having previously become one of Nigeria’s youngest Computer Engineering professors at just 39, his transition to the apex of the nation’s matriculation board means he will now make national history as JAMB’s youngest-ever registrar.

Prior to this landmark appointment, he served as a high-level consultant to major national examination bodies, including NECO, NABTEB, and various State Ministries of Education, offering unmatched technical expertise on ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process optimization.

Professor Aina maintains active membership in several prestigious professional organizations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

President Tinubu stated that he expects Professor Aina to aggressively leverage his vast technological experience, academic knowledge, and practical insights to take the critical educational organization far beyond the laudable heights already achieved by his predecessor.
