The Academic Board of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has ordered the withdrawal of 229 students across various departments after they failed to meet the institution’s minimum academic standards.

The Academic Board of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has approved the immediate withdrawal of 229 students across various departments due to poor academic performance.

The decision was disclosed in a statement released on Friday by Mr. John Onimisi, the Acting Coordinator of Public Relations and Protocols for the institution. The resolution was finalized during the board’s meeting on Tuesday, which was presided over by the Rector, Prof. Salihu Avidime, alongside principal officers, deans, and heads of departments.

The drastic measure followed the board’s review and approval of the first-semester results for the 2025/2026 academic session. The results were cleared after a thorough vetting process conducted by the Academic Board Central Results Verification Committee.

According to the institution, the committee meticulously scrutinized submissions from all departments and schools to guarantee accuracy, fairness, and absolute compliance with the polytechnic’s internal regulations.

The 229 affected individuals comprise students from both National Diploma (ND 1 & 2) and Higher National Diploma (HND 1 & 2) levels. The mass withdrawal cuts across several key disciplines, including: Accountancy, Business Administration ,Computer Science, Mass Communication, Public Administration, Science Laboratory Technology, Building Technology.

The institution confirmed that the comprehensive list of the affected students has been officially published.

The Rector, Prof. Salihu Avidime, commended the verification committee for its diligence and professionalism, noting that their meticulous work plays a vital role in strengthening the polytechnic’s academic integrity and protecting the value of the certificates awarded by the school.

The board emphasized that the decision was taken “in the overall interest of sustaining academic excellence.” The management further stated that the enforcement of these standards is intended to serve as a wake-up call, fostering discipline, seriousness, and a higher level of educational commitment among the remaining student body.
