The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has fixed N60 million as the total cost for its 2027 presidential nomination process and released the timetable for the conduct of its nationwide primary elections.

The party disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by its National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, and National Secretary, Ikenna Enekweizu. According to the statement, presidential aspirants are expected to pay N20 million for the Expression of Interest Form and N40 million for the Nomination Form.

The party also announced fees for other elective positions.

Governorship aspirants are to pay N10 million for the Expression of Interest Form and N20 million for the Nomination Form.

Senate aspirants will pay N3 million and N5 million respectively for the two forms, while aspirants seeking seats in the House of Representatives are expected to pay N2 million and N4 million.

For State House of Assembly aspirants, the party fixed the fees at N1 million for the Expression of Interest Form and N1.5 million for the Nomination Form.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, however, announced concessions for female aspirants and Persons Living With Disabilities (PWDs).

According to the party, female aspirants will pay only 50 per cent of the prescribed fees across all categories, while PWD aspirants will enjoy a 25 per cent discount.

The party also released the timetable for the sale of nomination forms, screening of aspirants and conduct of its primary elections.

Under the schedule, the sale of Expression of Interest Forms will commence on May 13 and end on May 18, 2026.

Screening and interviews for aspirants are expected to take place between May 19 and May 21.

The sale of Nomination Forms will begin immediately after the screening exercise from May 21 to May 23, while completed forms must be submitted on or before May 25.

The party further stated that appeals arising from the screening process would be heard on May 25 and May 26.

According to the timetable, primaries for various elective positions are scheduled for May 27 and May 28, while the Presidential Primary Election will hold on May 29 in Abuja.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress explained that aspirants for State Houses of Assembly would be screened in their respective states, while National Assembly and presidential aspirants would undergo screening at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.

It also disclosed that governorship primaries would be conducted at the local government level.

The party added that all aspirants would be required to sign undertakings in line with its guidelines and code of conduct.

According to the statement, the NDC will adopt the “open secret ballot” voting system for its primaries to strengthen credibility, fairness and internal democracy.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to conducting transparent and credible primary elections capable of producing competent candidates for the 2027 general elections.
