Power Outage – Exercise scheduled for Sunday | Engineers to complete Emene Industrial Lines reconstruction | Affected areas include Trans Ekulu, Emene, Airport, Abakpa Nike

MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) has announced a planned power outage in parts of Enugu metropolis scheduled for Sunday, May 10, 2026, as the company intensifies efforts to complete ongoing electricity infrastructure upgrades within the state.

According to a statement issued by the Head of Communications of MEDL, Emeka Ezeh, the temporary outage will take place between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

The company explained that the exercise is necessary to enable engineers conclude work on the reconstructed Emene Industrial Lines 1 and 2 tower, alongside the restringing of transmission wires aimed at improving network reliability and operational safety.

As part of the exercise, electricity supply to the Trans Ekulu, Thinkers Corner, Ituku Ozalla, and Ugwogo 33KV feeders will be temporarily disrupted during the maintenance period.

Areas expected to be affected by the planned power outage include Trans Ekulu, Emene, Thinkers Corner, Emenite, Airport, Alo Aluminium, Akpuoga, Nkwubor, Ugwuomu, Abakpa Nike, Nike Lake, Ugwogo, and adjoining communities connected to the affected lines.

“The planned outage is to provide a safe working environment for our engineers to conclude work on the reconstructed Emene Industrial Lines 1 and 2 tower, as well as carry out the restringing of wires,” the statement said.

The company appealed to residents and businesses in the affected locations for patience and understanding, particularly customers connected to Emene Industrial Lines 1 and 2 who have experienced recent supply interruptions.

MEDL further assured customers that electricity supply would be restored immediately after the completion of the technical exercise.

The latest development comes amid ongoing efforts by MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited to strengthen power infrastructure and improve electricity distribution across Enugu State.
