In a major political move toward continuity, Governor Mai Mala Buni and high-ranking Yobe APC stakeholders have endorsed former SSG Alhaji Baba Wali as the party’s preferred successor for the 2027 elections.
ABUJA – The Yobe State All Progressives Congress (APC) Critical Stakeholders’ Forum has officially endorsed Alhaji Baba Wali as its preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The announcement marks a significant step in the state’s transition plan, aiming for stability and the continuation of the current administration’s developmental roadmap.
The decision was reached during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday, led by the incumbent Governor, Mai Mala Buni, and the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Geidam.
The endorsement was formally communicated via a statement issued on Thursday by Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, the Governor’s Director-General of Press and Media Affairs.
The forum described Alhaji Baba Wali, a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), as a seasoned technocrat possessing the professional qualifications and temperament necessary for effective governance. Stakeholders emphasized that his long-standing involvement in various state administrations makes him uniquely qualified to advance the mission and vision of Yobe’s long-term development plan.
“The forum noted that the former SSG had been an active player in the various administrations in the state for many years, which qualifies him for continuity,” the statement noted, highlighting the party’s focus on a seamless leadership transition.
The endorsement follows a strategic resolution made by the stakeholders on April 24, where the party officially adopted consensus as the preferred mode for its 2027 primary elections. By moving toward a consensus candidate early, the party leadership hopes to prevent internal friction and maintain a unified front ahead of the general polls.
Governor Buni and Senator Geidam, who serves as the forum’s Chairman, pledged to maintain an open dialogue with all party members. They emphasized that ongoing engagement is essential to entrenching peace and unity within the APC in Yobe State, ensuring that the party remains focused on its governance objectives leading up to the 2027 election cycle.
