President Bola Tinubu has nominated fiscal and economic reform veteran Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe to lead the Ministry of Power, following the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu.
ABUJA – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially nominated Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the Minister of Power. The nomination, which has been transmitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation, follows the resignation of the former minister, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.
Mr. Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, arrives at the role with over 35 years of experience in fiscal and economic reform across both public and private sectors. He is widely recognized as a veteran in institutional transformation, having previously served as a Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa. During his tenure there, he led various initiatives focusing on fiscal policy reform, governance, and regulatory frameworks for both government and private organizations.
Currently, Mr. Tegbe serves as the Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP). In this capacity, he has been responsible for strengthening bilateral development between the two nations and coordinating public sector engagements to advance economic and social development in alignment with the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) objectives.
The Minister-designate is no stranger to the complexities of the energy industry. His professional background includes significant engagements with key agencies, including the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET). His expertise in regulatory and institutional reform is expected to be a vital asset as the administration seeks to stabilize the national grid and attract sustainable investment.
According to the Presidency, this nomination is a strategic move to further the “Renewed Hope Agenda” by bringing high-level technical expertise to a critical sector. Upon confirmation by the Senate, Mr. Tegbe will be expected to drive essential reforms aimed at improving power delivery outcomes for Nigerians nationwide.
