Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Enugu State chapter, has given a strong endorsement to Governor Peter Mbah for a second term in office, citing what it described as visionary, pragmatic, and transformative leadership.

The decision was announced on April 26, 2026, after an expanded stakeholders’ meeting held at the Michael Okpara Square in Enugu.

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation also acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s projects, interventions, and appointments in the South East, particularly in Enugu State.

The meeting featured traditional rulers, professionals, market leaders, youth groups, women organisations, and presidents-general of town unions.

Among those present were Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu, and representatives of the national leadership of Ohanaeze.

In its resolution, the group said Mbah’s administration had shown commitment to infrastructure, economic revitalisation, security improvement, and human capital development.

The organisation said its endorsement was also based on continued respect for the informal zoning arrangement of the governorship seat in Enugu State since 1999.

Ohanaeze therefore declared Governor Mbah as its sole candidate for the 2027 governorship election in the state.

Bianca Ojukwu described Mbah as a visionary leader rebuilding Enugu for future prosperity and progress.

The meeting also reviewed national developments and praised Tinubu’s efforts in economic reforms, infrastructure, and national stability.

Projects highlighted included the concession of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, gas pipeline extension to Enugu, reconstruction of Enugu-Port Harcourt and Enugu-Onitsha roads, and other transport infrastructure.

The group further noted recent federal appointments of Enugu indigenes into top military positions under the Tinubu administration.

Vice President-General of Ohanaeze representing Enugu State, Prof. Fredrick Eze, said the endorsement aligned with the organisation’s mandate of guiding the Igbo people toward credible paths of progress.

Ohanaeze Enugu State President, High Chief Uche Obisi, commended Mbah for inclusive governance in healthcare, education, security, transportation, agriculture, and rural development.

Responding, Governor Mbah thanked Ohanaeze for the confidence reposed in him and for recognising the President’s efforts in the region.

He said the moment reflected strategic thinking and a willingness to look beyond narrow political interests.

Mbah urged Igbo leaders to build alliances that would benefit future generations rather than pursue what he described as tiny political kingdoms.

The governor assured stakeholders that he would continue to justify the trust placed in him through reforms and projects across the state.

He added that over 2,000 ongoing and completed projects are helping reposition Enugu as a leading destination for business, investment, tourism, and modern living.
