President Bola Tinubu has congratulated 14-year-old Adeolu Oreofe after she emerged as the 2026 African Spelling Bee Champion, bringing continental honour to Nigeria.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated 14-year-old Adeolu Oluwadamilola Oreofe for emerging as the 2026 African Spelling Bee Champion in the Junior Category of the competition held in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Oreofe, a student of St. Lawrence Metropolitan College, Ado Ekiti, defeated contestants from more than 20 African countries to win the continental champion title.

Her victory also earned her a $5,000 educational scholarship.

President Tinubu described the achievement as a reflection of the importance of sustained investment in education, literacy, and youth development across Nigeria.

He also applauded the young champion for her determination, discipline, and resilience, as well as the support provided by her parents, teachers, and mentors.

The President noted that Oreofe’s success came after several near victories in previous competitions.

She finished second at the 2023 MTN Spelling Bee and the 2024 Ekiti State Spelling Bee.

She later placed fifth at the 2025 African Spelling Bee and second at the 2025 Nigeria Spelling Bee before finally becoming continental champion in 2026.

According to Tinubu, the victory brings honour to Nigeria on the African stage and serves as motivation for millions of young Nigerians to pursue academic excellence and personal growth.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector and creating opportunities for Nigerian youths to compete successfully on the global stage.

The President wished the young champion continued success in her future academic and personal endeavours.
