Guidance took centre stage during Mothering Sunday in Enugu as Rev. Fr. Joseph Ozor urged mothers to become strong role models and promote unity, discipline and moral values in the family.
ENUGU, Nigeria – A message of guidance and family values marked the 2026 Mothering Sunday celebration in Enugu as the Parish Priest of Holy Family Catholic Church, Ologo, Rev. Fr. Joseph Ozor, urged mothers to be positive role models in society.
Fr. Ozor made the call on Sunday during the Mothering Sunday celebration themed, True Love In Action.
In his sermon, the cleric stressed the need for mothers to uphold virtues that promote unity, discipline and moral upbringing within the home.
He said mothers play a critical role in shaping both the family and the wider society through their conduct, values and leadership.
Fr. Ozor also expressed concern over what he described as a growing trend of neglect of family responsibilities among some women.
He cautioned against immoral lifestyles and excessive social outings, urging mothers to preserve the dignity and sacred responsibility of motherhood.
According to him, stable homes are built on commitment, mutual respect and responsible family living.
The priest further highlighted what he described as the “three powers” of a wife, including wise use of speech, care through provision of food and marital intimacy, as important factors in sustaining peaceful homes.
He advised women to remain faithful to their husbands and avoid actions capable of creating conflict or destabilising the family structure.
Fr. Ozor also called for healthy relationships between wives and their in-laws, urging women to treat their mothers-in-law with respect.
At the same time, he encouraged older women to give younger couples enough independence and avoid unnecessary interference in their marriages.
He urged mothers to reflect deeply on their responsibilities and demonstrate true love through daily actions.
According to the priest, the stability of society depends largely on the strength of the family, making the role of mothers central to national development.
The Mothering Sunday celebration drew worshippers who joined in honouring women and recognising their enduring contributions to family life and community growth.
