President Bola Tinubu used his first major meeting with Renewed Hope Ambassadors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to defend democracy, urge grassroots mobilisation, and receive strong endorsements from governors and party leaders backing his reform agenda.

ABUJA – Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday held his inaugural meeting with leaders and coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, the platform driving support for his 2027 re-election bid, as top governors and political allies praised his administration’s reforms and economic direction.

The meeting, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on April 16, brought together senior members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, state governors, and campaign coordinators from across the country.

Tinubu used the gathering to charge the ambassadors to intensify mobilisation efforts while stressing the importance of respecting democratic institutions and the rule of law.

“You represent the conscience of a nation that wants to break the shackles of poverty and hopelessness,” the President said.

He added that Nigeria’s progress depends on unity, national vision, and commitment to democratic principles, including respect for the judiciary.

Several governors and political leaders at the event praised Tinubu’s economic reforms and support for state governments.

Hope Uzodinma said the organisation had become active nationwide, with structures already established across local governments, wards, and polling units.

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani said more effort was needed to communicate government achievements to Nigerians.

“No President in the history of Nigeria has supported the sub-nationals like President Tinubu,” he said.

Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya also praised the administration, saying governors who served before and after 2023 could clearly see the difference in federal-state relations.

Former Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari described Tinubu as a reformer facing predictable resistance but urged him to remain focused.

He cited fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate reforms as bold steps previous administrations avoided.

Former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim accused the opposition of spreading misinformation but said the Renewed Hope structure remained ahead politically.

Former Nasarawa State Governor Tanko Al-Makura said Tinubu entered office well prepared, while former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa credited the President with helping state governments regain fiscal breathing space.

Okowa also commended the student loan initiative, noting that more than 1.16 million students had reportedly benefited through the NELFUND programme as of March.

The gathering is being viewed as a significant political signal ahead of the 2027 election cycle, with governors and senior party leaders publicly closing ranks around Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.

Also present were Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, and governors from Kebbi, Yobe, Ebonyi, Delta, Kogi, Ekiti, Benue, Taraba, and Edo states.
