President Bola Tinubu has signed Nigeria’s ₦68.32 trillion 2026 budget into law and extended 2025 capital spending to accelerate ongoing projects nationwide.

ABUJA, Nigeria – Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, approving a total expenditure of ₦68.32 trillion for the current fiscal year.

The president also assented to legislation extending the implementation period of the capital component of the 2025 budget from March 31 to June 30, allowing more time for completion of ongoing projects.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja by Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, the 2026 budget provides: ₦4.799 trillion for statutory transfers, ₦15.8 trillion for debt servicing, ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent expenditure, ₦32.2 trillion for the Development Fund for capital projects.

With capital spending accounting for nearly 50 per cent of total expenditure, the fiscal plan places strong emphasis on infrastructure expansion and productivity growth.

The Presidency said the budget reflects the administration’s commitment to economic stability, national security, and inclusive development.

It added that the allocations were structured to balance mandatory obligations, debt repayments, recurrent costs, and strategic investments.

The newly signed Appropriation (Repeal and Enactment) (Amendment) Bill, 2026, extends the life of the 2025 capital vote to enable full utilisation of funds already approved for projects nearing completion.

The Federal Government said Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) are expected to use the extension period to consolidate ongoing works and improve project delivery rates.

With the 2026 Appropriation Act taking effect from April 1, implementation is expected to begin immediately.

Tinubu directed MDAs to ensure disciplined, transparent, and efficient use of public resources, stressing value for money and timely completion of projects across sectors.

The president commended the leadership and members of the National Assembly of Nigeria for the speedy consideration and passage of the budget.

He also reaffirmed the need for sustained cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government in driving national development.

Tinubu further assured Nigerians of continued fiscal reforms, stronger revenue mobilisation, job creation, and expanded social protection programmes.
