MainPower restores power supply to parts of Nsukka after installing 11kV breakers at UNN Injection Substation, assuring improved reliability and thanking customers for patience.

MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) has restored power supply to parts of Nsukka in Enugu State following the successful installation of 11kV indoor breakers at the UNN Injection Substation.

The company had earlier implemented a planned outage which commenced on Friday, March 27, 2026, instead of Thursday, March 26, as initially scheduled, to enable engineers replace faulty breakers at the facility.

Head of Communications at MEDL, Mr. Emeka Ezeh, disclosed in a statement issued Monday that the maintenance exercise was successfully completed on Sunday, leading to the restoration of electricity supply.

According to the company, normal power has now been restored to the four affected 11kV feeders at the UNN Injection Substation – Willson, UNN, Township, and Onuiyi feeders.

Ezeh appreciated customers affected by the outage for their patience and understanding, noting that the maintenance work was necessary to enhance service reliability and improve electricity supply across the affected areas.

He explained that before the replacement, the substation experienced equipment limitations that disrupted supply to several locations, including Ogige Market and surrounding areas, the UNN community extending to Obukpa, Isiuwa through Ofulonu, Agu Eke Edem, the Barracks area, St. Cyprian and environs, Uwani Ugwu community, Building Materials Market, Solive Industries, Umuakashi community, parts of Aku Road, as well as Catholic and Anglican Cathedral communities.

During the outage, the affected locations were temporarily back-fed through the Onuiyi and Bass 11kV feeders to minimize disruption.

The company also appealed for continued understanding amid nationwide electricity challenges, noting that gas supply constraints have reduced generation capacity at power plants, thereby limiting energy available for distribution and affecting supply hours.

MainPower reaffirmed its commitment to efficiently distributing available energy across its Enugu network and improving service delivery.

Earlier this month, the company carried out major maintenance at its Trans-Ekulu Injection Substation in Enugu, including the installation of a newly procured 11kV indoor switchgear panel valued at over ₦200 million. The firm said the investment reflects its commitment to strengthening network reliability and delivering more stable electricity to customers.
