The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has intensified CVR efforts in Enugu, urging eligible residents to register and collect PVCs ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has urged residents of Enugu State to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Resident Electoral Commissioner in Enugu State, Chukwuemeka Chukwu, made the call in an interview with journalists on Monday in Enugu.

Chukwu said uncollected PVCs remained available for pickup at designated registration centres, including ward locations where the commission is currently rotating registration activities.

“If you registered before and have not collected your PVC, this is the time to do so,” he said.

He stressed that possession of a valid PVC was essential for participation in elections, describing it as a citizen’s tool for choosing leaders.

The REC urged residents, particularly those who recently turned 18, to take advantage of the free registration and avoid last-minute rush.

“Come out now that the opportunity is available; registration is free. It is your civic right to participate in choosing your leaders,” he added.

Chukwu explained that the CVR portal would not end abruptly but would be paused periodically in line with phases of the exercise, noting that voter registration would continue ahead of the 2027 polls.

According to him, the exercise accommodates fresh registrations, data updates and transfer of voter details for individuals who have relocated.

“In Nigeria, anyone who is 18 years and above has the right to register. Those who had issues during previous elections, such as incorrect details or unreadable data, can update their information,” he said.

He noted that the current CVR is part of a phased process that began nationwide on August 18, 2025, and initially ended on December 10, 2025.

The REC added that the second phase commenced on January 5 and is expected to run until April 17, 2026.

Chukwu said that after each phase, the commission conducts a claims and objections period to allow registrants verify and correct their details before final processing.

He further disclosed that INEC was rotating registration across the 260 wards in Enugu State, alongside activities at state and local government offices.

The REC added that mobile intervention teams had been deployed to areas with large turnout to ensure eligible citizens were captured, while voter education campaigns had been intensified across markets, churches and communities.

He reiterated the commission’s commitment to ensuring that all eligible voters in Enugu State are registered and issued PVCs ahead of future elections.
