Enugu Government commends rapid progress at the 10,000-hectare Enugu Tribu Songhai Farms, highlighting job creation, food security, and youth empowerment
Enugu Tribu Songhai Farms is gaining momentum as the Enugu State Government has expressed strong satisfaction with the speed and scale of work at the 10,000-hectare agro-industrial project located in Obunofia Ndiuno, Ezeagu Local Government Area.
The commendation followed an inspection tour led by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialization, Dr. Patrick Ubru, alongside key partners, including renowned agricultural innovator Prof. Godfrey Nzamujo.
The visit assessed ongoing efforts to revive the once-dormant facility, now being repositioned into a fully integrated agro-industrial, training, and innovation ecosystem under a public-private partnership framework.
Massive Infrastructure Revival Underway

At the time of inspection, work had reached advanced stages across critical segments of the Enugu Tribu Songhai Farms. Large expanses of farmland had been cleared, access roads graded, and no fewer than 54 fish ponds constructed.
Significant progress was also recorded in the rehabilitation of piggeries and poultry units, restoration of water supply systems, and renovation of residential quarters and training centres. These developments signal a coordinated push to transform the facility into a modern agricultural hub.
Ubru Praises Mbah’s Vision
Speaking during the tour, Dr. Ubru commended Governor Peter Mbah for demonstrating decisive leadership in repositioning agriculture through strategic partnerships.
He noted that the inspection of the Enugu Tribu Songhai Farms followed an earlier visit by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, alongside Dr. Nnamdi Ozor, the chief investor driving the project.

According to Ubru, the pace of development is unprecedented.
“This is not the kind of opportunity we should allow to slip away. When the governor said he would transform agriculture with technology and serious partners like Songhai, today it is happening,” he said.
He disclosed that the state is already looking ahead to commissioning the facility, expressing optimism that it could be ready in the near term.
“Between now and next month, we will return here with His Excellency to commission this project. By then, we expect further expansion, including ranching and full engagement of our young people.”
Agro Hub to Drive Jobs, Food Security
Ubru explained that the Enugu Tribu Songhai Farms is designed as a large-scale agro-industrial ecosystem focused on food production, value-chain development, enterprise incubation, and youth empowerment.
With its expansive landmass and integrated structure, the project is expected to generate employment, strengthen food security, and position Enugu as a leading hub for technology-driven agriculture in Nigeria.
Nzamujo: A New Agricultural Narrative
Also speaking, Prof. Nzamujo described the initiative as a transformative platform capable of redefining agriculture and youth engagement across the region.
He emphasized that the project would shift young people from dependency to productivity.
“Because young people are coming here, the Enugu story, the South East story, and indeed the Nigerian story will be different,” he stated.

Nzamujo stressed that the model goes beyond conventional farming, integrating agriculture, industry, and services into a unified ecosystem.
“Agriculture is going to become a weapon of mass socio-economic construction. From the primary stage, industry and services will grow from here. This place will become a microcosm of government, where everything works in synergy.”
He added that the initiative prioritizes practical training and self-reliance.
“We are not here to give palliative. Young people are the solution. With this kind of training, they will create their own opportunities.”
Stakeholders Applaud Initiative
A prominent farmer and CEO of Ugwu Anama Farm Ltd, Sani Friday Nnaji, who joined the inspection tour, expressed satisfaction with the scale and quality of ongoing work.
He praised Governor Mbah’s commitment to agriculture and revealed that his visit was aimed at exploring collaboration opportunities with the Enugu Tribu Songhai Farms initiative.
Nnaji described meeting Prof. Nzamujo as a privilege, noting the latter’s influence on agricultural transformation across Africa.
“I am truly impressed by what I have seen here. This is a bold and visionary project that will redefine agriculture in Enugu State.”
A Strategic Leap for Enugu Agriculture
The rapid progress at the Enugu Tribu Songhai Farms underscores the state government’s broader ambition to industrialize agriculture, empower youth, and attract investment into the sector.
With commissioning on the horizon, the project is increasingly seen as a flagship model for sustainable development, capable of reshaping not just Enugu’s economy but the wider agricultural landscape in Nigeria.
