An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of a 31-year-old site engineer accused of raping a 26-year-old woman in Lekki, Lagos.

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered the remand of a 31-year-old site engineer, Godwin Asekhamen, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre over allegations that he raped a 26-year-old woman in Lekki, Lagos.

The presiding magistrate, Omolara Kushanu, did not take the plea of the defendant and directed that he remain in custody pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The defendant, who resides on B60 Road, Chevron Drive, in the Lekki area of Lagos, is facing charges of rape and assault.

According to the prosecutor, Adegoke Ademigbuji, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, the alleged offences occurred on May 1, 2025.

Ademigbuji told the court that the victim had visited a friend’s residence where she encountered the defendant watching a movie.

He said the incident allegedly occurred after the victim’s friend stepped out to buy food.

According to the prosecution, the defendant locked the door, assaulted the woman and raped her.

The prosecutor added that the defendant allegedly evaded arrest for months until the victim later sighted him again in Lekki and raised an alarm, which led to his arrest.

The prosecution said the alleged offences contravene Sections 170 and 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
