The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) has called for calm and restraint ahead of the ruling by the Court of Appeal of Nigeria on the party’s leadership crisis.
The forum, chaired by Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi State, made the appeal in a statement issued in Abuja by its Director-General, Emmanuel Agbo.
Agbo urged members and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Nigerians to remain calm before, during and after the court’s decision.
“We urge our members, supporters and indeed all Nigerians to remain calm and disciplined in their reactions to the ruling,” he said.
“Our collective response must reflect maturity and a deep respect for the rule of law.”
According to him, the party leadership will meet immediately after the judgment to review the outcome and determine the next line of action.
Agbo said the party remained committed to peace and respect for the judicial process regardless of the court’s decision.
He described the judiciary as the custodian of justice and a key institution responsible for ensuring fairness, impartiality and national stability.
The PDP Governors’ Forum also reaffirmed the party’s determination to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Agbo stated that the party would continue to participate fully in the democratic process and ensure that the voices of citizens are respected.
The ruling stems from nine appeals filed by rival factions of the PDP over the controversial national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, in November 2025.
Despite court orders stopping the convention, organisers proceeded with the event between Nov. 15 and Nov. 16, producing Tanimu Turaki as national chairperson alongside other national officers.
The appeals challenge earlier judgments delivered by James Omotosho and Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court of Nigeria.
Another case related to the dispute was filed before Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court by a rival faction aligned with Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
The suit seeks to restrain the Turaki-led leadership from representing the party and to bar the Department of State Services (DSS) from granting them access to the PDP national secretariat in Abuja.
Lawyers for the Turaki faction, led by Chris Uche, SAN, argued that the earlier judgment invalidating the convention was delivered without jurisdiction.
However, lawyers representing the opposing faction, including Joseph Daudu, SAN, urged the court to dismiss the appeals and uphold the earlier rulings.
