A 37-year-old woman, Mariam Yusuf, was on Monday arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State for allegedly biting off a man’s middle finger.
Yusuf, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing a one-count charge of assault. She pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecution counsel, E. O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence at about 7:45 p.m. on Feb. 23 at No. 1 Isokan Olorunsogo Street, Iloye, Ota.
Adaraloye alleged that Yusuf bit off the middle finger of Ezekial Olatunji, causing permanent injury.
According to him, the offence contravenes Section 335 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
The presiding magistrate, O. O. Fadairo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with one surety in like sum.
Fadairo ruled that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed, with proof of tax payment to the Ogun State Government.
The case was adjourned until March 12 for further hearing.
