President Bola Tinubu has approved the deployment of 65 ambassadors-designate to Nigeria’s foreign missions and the United Nations, marking a significant step in strengthening the country’s diplomatic representation abroad.
The list includes 31 non-career ambassadors and 34 career ambassadors, whose nominations were earlier confirmed by the Senate in December 2025.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Friday, March 6, 2026, by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in Abuja.
Key Non-Career Ambassadorial Appointments
Among the notable political and non-career ambassadors is former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, who was posted to Germany.
Businessman and former senator Jimoh Ibrahim was appointed Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, while political commentator Reno Omokri was posted to Mexico.
Former Chief of Staff to the President Lateef Are will serve as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States.
Other prominent non-career envoys include:
Former Minister of Health Isaac Adewole – Canada
Aminu Dalhatu – United Kingdom (High Commissioner)
Ita Enang – South Africa
Former INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu – Qatar
Grace Bent – Togo
Additional postings include Ifeyani Ugwuanyi to Greece, Dambazau Abdulrahman to China, Olufemi Pedro to Australia, and Nora Daduut to South Korea.
Career Ambassadors Assigned To Strategic Missions
The career diplomatic list features seasoned foreign service officers posted across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

Shehu Ilu Barde – Ghana
Abdussalam Habu Zayyad – Senegal
Bako Adamu Umar – Morocco
Aminu Nasir – Ethiopia
Ibrahim Danlami – Kenya
Other career envoys were assigned to countries such as Egypt, India, Iran, Malaysia, Belgium, Switzerland, Namibia, Thailand, and Sudan.
Agrément Process Underway
According to Onanuga, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already secured agrément-formal diplomatic consent-from the United Kingdom for Aminu Dalhatu and from France for Ayodele Oke.
He added that requests for agrément for the remaining ambassadors have been forwarded to their respective host countries in line with international diplomatic procedures.
President Tinubu also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately commence an induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and high commissioners to prepare them for their diplomatic assignments.
The deployment is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement, promote foreign relations, and advance the country’s strategic interests across the globe.
