Rangers International FC defeated Nasarawa United FC 2-0 on Sunday to move to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League table after Matchday 28 of the 2025/26 season.
The encounter, played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, saw the home side deliver a disciplined performance to secure all three points and strengthen their push for the league title.
Veteran striker Godwin Obaje opened the scoring in the 20th minute to give Rangers an early advantage.
The goal unsettled the visitors, who responded with attacking moves and quick passing combinations that put pressure on the Rangers defence but failed to find the equaliser.
Midfielder Chidiebere Nwobodo doubled the lead before half-time, finishing off a well-worked move to put the Flying Antelopes firmly in control.
Nasarawa United dominated possession after the break but wasted several scoring opportunities, while Rangers also pushed forward in search of more goals without success.
The victory takes Rangers to the top of the league standings with 47 points from 28 matches.
Speaking after the game, Nasarawa United coach Mangut Mpwas blamed his team’s defeat on missed chances.
“We played well but missed many chances. That is football,” he said.
Rangers coach Fidelis Ilechukwu praised his players for their early goals and fighting spirit.
“It was a fantastic performance and we hope to keep it up. We are looking at winning the league, but it is still a long way to go,” he said.
