Nigeria has called for restraint and de-escalation in the Gulf region following rising tensions linked to the conflict involving United States, Israel, and Iran.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, made the call in a statement issued by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, expressing concern over the growing instability in the Gulf region.

According to the minister, the Federal Government warned that continued escalation could have serious consequences for regional and global peace.

He urged all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions capable of worsening hostilities, stressing the need for dialogue instead of confrontation.

“We urge strict adherence to the provisions of the UN Charter and the Geneva Convention, particularly with respect to sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the peaceful settlement of disputes,” Tuggar said.

He emphasised that the use of force must be limited to prevent civilian casualties and to preserve international legal norms that regulate armed conflict.

Nigeria also reaffirmed its support for diplomacy, multilateral engagement, and peaceful resolution of disputes, noting that dialogue remains the only sustainable path to stability.

Tuggar added that Nigeria supports ongoing international efforts aimed at mediation, confidence-building, and negotiations to resolve the crisis.

He reiterated that the country stands with the global community in calling for calm, warning that prolonged conflict in the Gulf could threaten international order and collective security.
