Rangers International FC on Sunday secured a 2-0 victory over Wikki Tourists FC in a 2025/26 season fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The encounter, played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, saw both sides begin on an aggressive note as they sought early dominance.

Wikki Tourists started brightly, making several incursions into Rangers’ 18-yard box, but the visitors were unable to break through the hosts’ defence.

Rangers broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when Wisdom Ebirim found the back of the net to give the Flying Antelopes the lead.

The home side doubled their advantage in the 35th minute through veteran striker Godwin Obaje, who capitalised on a scoring opportunity to make it 2-0 before half-time.

In the second half, Wikki Tourists took greater control of the midfield and pushed Rangers deeper into their own half in search of a comeback. However, despite sustained pressure, the Bauchi-based side failed to convert their chances.

Rangers also created a few opportunities after the break but were unable to add to their tally, as the match ended 2-0 in favour of the Enugu side.

Speaking after the game, Wikki Tourists’ Acting Coach, Bashir Sale, expressed disappointment over his team’s lack of clinical finishing.

“Scoring was our problem today; we came to win but the boys were not clinical enough. We will work on our play ahead of the next match,” he said.

Rangers’ coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, commended his players for adhering to tactical instructions and maintaining focus throughout the game.

“Everybody wants to win the league but at the end the better team won. We are still within reach to win the NPFL,” he said.

The victory moves Rangers to 43 points as they continue their push in the NPFL standings.
